One of Ireland’s favourite food festivals is back and very proud to be celebrating its 11th anniversary in 2017. Savour Kilkenny Food Festival, each year develops a programme of activities, which embraces all sectors of the food community from artisan producers to restaurateurs, food agencies to food farmers. This year we welcome back the ever popular Savour Village - a foodie haven with heaps of delicious tempting food stalls, more celebrity Chef cooking demo’s, talks, workshops, competitions and unique dinning events.

A Festival of Firsts – Savour Kilkenny 2017

Savour Kilkenny 2017 – Festival of Food is set to host a festival of firsts this year with new events, new venues across the county, new food producers and some of Ireland’s well-known personalities making their cookery demonstration debuts in Kilkenny. Download the full programme (PDF 16 Mb)


Fashion will feature for the first time at this year’s festival with ‘Oishii! Taste of Japan’ at the National Craft Gallery combining sushi with exhibited designs by John Rocha and Lainey Keogh to Issey Miyake and Comme des Garçons.

Medieval Food and Craft Village

Kilkenny’s new Medieval Mile Museum presents A Medieval Food and Craft Village giving a ‘step-back in time’ glimpse into medieval food and craft making. Festival visitors can also enjoy a Gunpowder Gin Mixology Class at The Wine Centre, a Mushroom Hunt at Castlecomer Discovery Park, Agri-Aware’s Mobile Farm offering the chance to churn-butter and hear talks on food and farming on the Parade, food meets science with ‘Foodoppi’ for children, and lot’s more.

Chef Demo Stages

This year adds a second chef demo stage on the city’s Parade. Chefs making their festival debut include actor and Celebrity MasterChef contestant, Simon Delaney; food and travel blogging duo, The Gastro Gays; Oliver Dunne (Ireland’s youngest chef to receive a Michelin star) and MasterChef Winner and Olympic sprinter, David Gillick. The festival also welcomes national treasure and Chairperson of the National Ploughing Association, Anna May McHugh demonstrating delicious favourites and talking about her incredible life experiences with TV Chef, Edward Hayden. Festival favourites Neven Maguire, Rory O’ Connell, The Happy Pear, River Cottage’s Steven Lamb and Stuart O’ Keeffe are back by popular demand.

Craft Brewers and Distillers

2017 will showcase the largest Craft Brewers and Distillers Pavilion yet! Located in the heart of Savour Kilkenny’s festival on the city’s Parade, this is one of the most popular attractions with DJ beats and an array of craft beers, ciders and spirits from across Ireland, including Kilkenny’s Highbank Orchard Gin, a Wine Makers Tasting Table and local craft brewers O’ Hara’s Brewery, Costello’s and Sullivan’s Brewing Company. Ballykeefe Distillery will also premiere at the festival with master-distiller, Jamie Baggot, giving an exclusive insight into how he started with the humble potato and went on to win ‘Best Gin in the World’ award in San Francisco last year.

Festival Restaurant Events

The city’s new and most popular restaurants will also host special festival events – including the Michelin starred Lady Helen Restaurant at Mount Juliet, Anocht and new openings Butler House and Gardens ‘Tea Rooms’ and Kernal Bar and Kitchen. Petronella will host a very special evening of a specially created festival menu with an intimate live performance by Mary Coughlan.

With over 100 events, mostly free, and 100 stallholders Savour Kilkenny 2017 features a packed programme. Festivities will be held at Kilkenny Castle and across the city with the finale in Thomastown for the first time on Monday, October 30th
