The Chapter House at St. Marys Cathedral has been fully restored to its former glory. The Chapter House was built in the late 19th century by then Bishop of Ossory A. Brownrigg. The Chapter Room is situated on the first floor of the Chapter House and as is evident from the photographs the room has been tastefully renovated to create a magnificant venue for meetings, conferences, retreats and various other functions. Located in the heart of the medieval city of Kilkenny.
The Chapter House Meeting Room
As well as having the character and olde world feel the Chapter Room is fully equipped with overhead projectors and screen, sound system and all the requirements of the modern age. A fully fitted kitchenette is available for use, it is located through the secret door of the Chapter Room. We at St. Marys Cathedral look forward to hosting many great events and building long lasting relationships with all who use this wonderful facility.
Chapter House Tea Rooms
The Chapter House Tea Rooms are a welcome addition to this newly restored building in St.Mary's Cathedral, with access available from both within the Cathedral grounds or directly from Blackmill Street.
As you walk in the large wooden door to the café, off Blackmill Street, you are immediately hit with a welcome blast of warm air, which fends off the chills of winter. As you enter the dining room, it's hard to believe that the café in actually underground. It's spacious and well-lit. The stone walls and arch-shaped doors that lead to the patio outside give the tea rooms an air of quaint and old-worldliness, while the white walls and well placed mirrors help keep the style updated.
The Tea Rooms quaint and homely atmosphere is in keeping with the feeling of serenity that runs throughout the building. It is the perfect place to have a cup of tea and a chat or to enjoy the homemade soups, snacks, hot lunches or desserts.
The Chapter House Tea Rooms is a community focused amenity and our aim is to provide good quality home produced food at affordable prices.
Our menu offers a wide variety of healthy dishes including homemade soups and brown bread, salads, light snacks, hot lunches and our daily specials.
We also have an assortment of desserts, like our freshly-made scones, lemon drizzle cake, apple & berry crumbles, lemon meringue cake, apple and cinnamon tarts, roulades, vanilla and raspberry muffins, chocolate biscuit cake served with a warm chocolate & baileys sauce and cream to name but a few.
The coffee served in the Chapter House Tea Rooms the renowned Italian Illy Coffee brand which gives our customers a premium quality coffee in a variety of serving options.
All our food is sourced locally where possible from the friendly butcher Mullins of Friary Street, to Toss Farrell and his team for vegetables and of course Michael Kealy the local milk distributor. The Café also caters for gluten free diets, with open toasty Mediterranean vegetable sandwiches, gluten free soups, Lentil and Nut Loaf and a must be tried lemon drizzle cake or chocolate & almond fudge cake.
Our Lunches cover a wide variety which changes daily from our delicious goats cheese and sundried tomatoes quiches served on a bed of freshly made salads. Chapter house fish cakes served on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes, lemon drizzle butter & our home made beetroot chutney with roast vegetables. We also do the reliable Lasagna with wedges & coleslaw, wrap and toasty of the day. We normally give a choice of two soups each day and on Thursday and Friday we make a delicious seafood chowder, with our own stock made here, it's really a superb treat so come and join us soon.
There is also free Wi-Fi access for customers of the Chapter House Tea Rooms.
The Chapter House Tea Rooms also has an extensive take-away menu catering for Lunches, Meetings, Communions, Confirmations, Birthdays, Dinner Parties and Family Gatherings etc.
We can cater for up to 40 here at the Tea Rooms in the evening time, up until 10pm with prior booking.
