  • Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny - access from Parliment Street - 10am to 6pm daily, €12/9.50/7 - This multi-sensory and interactive experience will take visitors on a journey through the medieval origins of brewing on the site of the St. Francis Abbey Brewery to the arrival of John Smithwick in the 1700’s, and right up to the present day.  The tour includes a life-size holographic monk and living portraits of the Smithwick’s family members.  During the tour, the Smithwick’s brewing process will be brought to life with visitors having the opportunity to experience the smells, tastes and textures of the raw materials involved in creating the perfect pint of ale. French, German, Spanish and Italian speaking visitors will be offered an audio guide to take them through the tour, which lasts approximately 70 minutes

  • Comedy: Foil Arms & Hog - Friday 6th & Saturday 7th March - Cleeres, Parliment St - 9pm, €12 - Recently the comedy troupe have completed a world tour taking in Chicago, San Francisco, LA and Adelaide, culminating in a sell-out show at Dublin's Vicar Street and had a sold out show at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, foilarmsandhog.ie
  • Horse Racing: Holden Plant Rentals Day ft. Grade B Shamrock Chase - Saturday 7th March - Gowran Park, Gowran, Co.Kilkenny - first race at 2.10pm - This picturesque track in Co. Kilkenny has developed into one of Ireland’s premier Racetracks. The track hosts 16 race meetings throughout the year featuring both National Hunt and Flat Race meetings. Gowran Park is a right handed oval of 1 1/2m (Chase) and 1m 3 furlongs (Flat) with run in of 3 furlongs and uphill finish. 6 hurdles and 7 fences on circuit, gowranpark.ie/horseracing

  • Concert: Ed Romanoff - Sunday 8th March - Cleeres, Parliment St - 9pm, €15 - His self-titled debut album released in 2012 features Josh Ritter, Tift Merritt and Meg Hutchinson. His song "St. Vincent de Paul" won the Grand Prize at the 2012 Great American Song Contest as well as 1st Place in Lyrics at the 2012 Nashville Songwriters Association International competition. “Breakfast for One on the Fifth of July" earned First Place for 'Best Lyrics' in the 2011 USA Songwriting Competition, edromanoff.com

Kilkenny Castle Events

  • The 'Decius Mus' Tapestries have returned to the Castle. The Tapestries are among the great glories of the wonderful historic Ormonde Collection at Kilkenny Castle. The 'Decius' suite had been in the ownership of the Ormonde family for over 300 years and was displayed in several of their residences before being acquired by OPW for display in Kilkenny Castle. It forms a highlight of the Ormonde Collection in the Tapestry Room and fabulous Picture Gallery - one of the finest historic and architectural spaces in Ireland, kilkennycastle.ie
  • Orienteering Course - Following the December launch of the new permanent Orienteering Course at Kilkenny Castle Park, OPW is delighted to announce that three maps, Short (1.8km), Medium (2.4km) and Long (3.5km) distances, are now available to download for free on the Kilkenny Castle Website. The orienteering course is open to all, families, individuals, clubs, schools and what an amazing way to explore the flora and fauna of Kilkenny Castle Park whilst enjoying the exercise in beautiful surroundings.  There is also a small area of the Canal Walk involved in the courses, kilkennycastle.ie

  • Theatre: Bigger Picture Projects presents "Run/Don't Run" (Saturday 7th March)
  • Set in New York City, 1999 - A young man fleeing Dublin crash lands on the couch of his Irish-American cousin, just as this older cousin’s relationship with his girlfriend is imploding. Over the summer, the three cling to the last vestigages of the dying club scene and flirt with small-time criminality as storm clouds gather. Part love triangle, crime thriller and immigrant story.   • Concert: St Patrick's Brass and Reed Band with special guests Tweed (Wednesday 11th March)
  • Castlecomer Community School present St. Patrick’s Brass & Reed Band with Tweed, live here at the Watergate. Music In Kilkenny 2014/2015

  • Events taking place at Castalia Hall, Ballytobin, Callan, Co. Kilkenny. Music in Kilkenny organises a series of concerts every year. Music in Kilkenny is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Kilkenny County Council & the Camphill Community of Ballytobin. €15 admission for each concert or go to 10 concerts for €100.
  • Saturday 7th March - Irish Baroque Orchestra - 8pm, €15 - The Irish Baroque Orchestra is like no other group performing in Ireland today. Driven by the belief that the best things in life stand the test of time, the orchestra allows Irish audiences to experience the beauty of baroque music as it was intended to be heard. The result is as vivid as a freshly restored oil painting: the colour, simmering tension, and highly charged emotion of this incredible music bursts to the surface, carrying the listener back 300 years to the sights and sounds of 18th Century Europe.

  • Sunday 7th June - Three Choir Concert - at St Canices Cathedral, Kilkenny City - 4pm, €10/5 - A unique concert featuring the combined choirs of St Canice's Cathedral Kilkenny, Christ Church Cathedral Waterford and St Mary's Cathedral Limerick. Programme will include much-loved choral music from the Tudor period right up to the present day.
