  • Concert: Frankie Gavin and De Dannan - Thursday 17th April - Set Theatre, John St - 8pm, €20 - For many years traditional super group De Dannan were the forerunners in the Irish traditional music world but after 33 years, 14 albums and a number of changes in the line up. The official launch of the current band took place last year in Castlebar where they got three standing ovations from a capacity crowd. Singer Michelle Lally described as one with the voice of an angel, and whose vast and varied repertoire is unequalled heretofore. She follows in the footsteps of all the Irish greats with De Dannan like Mary Black, Maura O Connell and Dolores Keane to name but a few, set.ie

  • Cycling: Deenside Wheelers host Ladies Sportive ft. 50km/70km/100km routes - Monday 21st April - Castlecomer - 10am - Now in its 3rd year the Deenside Wheelers Ladies Sportive offers 3 great routes to cater for all levels of fitness. This year, along with the 50km and 100km route we will also be offering cyclists the option of a 70km route.   • Concert: The Boston College High School Concert Choir - Monday 21st April - St. Canice's Cathedral, Coach Road - 12.30pm, free - The Boston College High School Concert Choir will perform at St Canice's Cathedral in Kilkenny City as part of their Irish tour. They perform music of all periods, from Renaissance to contemporary, with an emphasis on learning to express and respond to different musical styles. Director is Dr. Marina Rozenberg.   • The 'Decius Mus' Tapestries have returned to the Castle. The Tapestries are among the great glories of the wonderful historic Ormonde Collection at Kilkenny Castle. The 'Decius' suite had been in the ownership of the Ormonde family for over 300 years and was displayed in several of their residences before being acquired by OPW for display in Kilkenny Castle. It forms a highlight of the Ormonde Collection in the Tapestry Room and fabulous Picture Gallery - one of the finest historic and architectural spaces in Ireland, kilkennycastle.ie
  • OPW Kilkenny Castle present series of free Garden Talks - Tuesday 22nd, 29th April & 6th May - Parade Tower at Kilkenny Castle - 7pm, free - On Tuesday 22nd April, a talk will be given by Jimi Blake of Huntingbrook Lodge, Wicklow. Jimi is renowned as an innovative modern gardener and a plant hunter who has taken part in expeditions to among other places, China and Tibet. The talk he proposes to give is on the subject of new and exciting perennials, both newly introduced from collected seed as well as newly breed cultivars. Admission is free. Entry on a first come basis for 120 persons at The Parade Tower. Doors open at 7pm and talks start at 8pm, kilkennycastle.ie
  • Orienteering Course - Following the December launch of the new permanent Orienteering Course at Kilkenny Castle Park, OPW is delighted to announce that three maps, Short (1.8km), Medium (2.4km) and Long (3.5km) distances, are now available to download for free on the Kilkenny Castle Website. The orienteering course is open to all, families, individuals, clubs, schools and what an amazing way to explore the flora and fauna of Kilkenny Castle Park whilst enjoying the exercise in beautiful surroundings.  There is also a small area of the Canal Walk involved in the courses, kilkennycastle.ie
