  • (Now to 22nd Dec): At Gowran Park in Gowran, they will be running trains from Gowran Park deep into the forest guided by Santa’s Elf’s to the top secret location where Santa rests and prepares for his round the world trip on Christmas Eve. Children will then get to meet and chat with both Santa & Mrs Claus and even get a little gift to remind them of their visit.
  • (Now to 23rd Dec): Chritmas Village at Mount Juliet has stalls from dozens of the finest local suppliers for you browse your way through on your visit to our beloved estate. Open Daily, 12pm to 9pm. Mount Juliet's popular homemade produce is available in our own Christmas shop aka the golf shop - including jams, chutneys and vinaigrettes. Mount Juliet's restaurants have special family menus during this time, so that everyone can enjoy the Christmas Village and also keep warm with great food.
  • (Now to 24th Dec): At the Castlecomer Discovery Park, on arrival, adults can enjoy a complimentary mulled wine/beverage, while children (and adults!) are entertained by our friendly Head Elf playing lots of fun games in the charming Oak-beamed visitor centre. You can take in the wonder of the park on the Christmas Train.
  • (Now to 24th Dec): Made In Kilkenny have a Pop Up Christmas shop on 7 John Street in the centre of Kilkenny City. Open daily from 10am to 6pm. This year's shop is located on John's street over the street from the Rivercourt Hotel. There will be a wide selection of locally made, fine quality craftwork by 17 of the MADE in Kilkenny group's members. Beautiful Ceramics, Jewellery, Candles, Woolens, Leather, Glass - a one-stop-shop for original Christmas gift ideas to suit all.
  • (Now to 11th Jan): Kilkenny On Ice featuring ice rink, skyfall zip line, bungee trampoline, rodeo reindeer and ice cafe is at the Hub at Cillin Hill.

  • Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny - access from Parliment Street - 10am to 6pm daily, €12/9.50/7 - This multi-sensory and interactive experience will take visitors on a journey through the medieval origins of brewing on the site of the St. Francis Abbey Brewery to the arrival of John Smithwick in the 1700’s, and right up to the present day.  The tour includes a life-size holographic monk and living portraits of the Smithwick’s family members.  During the tour, the Smithwick’s brewing process will be brought to life with visitors having the opportunity to experience the smells, tastes and textures of the raw materials involved in creating the perfect pint of ale. French, German, Spanish and Italian speaking visitors will be offered an audio guide to take them through the tour, which lasts approximately 70 minutes
  • Christmas Activities at your local Library - Tuesday 16th to Saturday 20th December - On Tuesday 16th, there is a Christmas Storytime at Johns Quay Library from 7pm to 7.45pm. On Wednesday 17th, there is a Christmas Customer Morning where you can have a cuppa & some mince pies, and maybe few carols too at Johns Quay Library from 10am to 12.30pm. There is a Christmas Craft Workshop for ages 6+ at Ferrybank Library from 3.15pm to 4.30pm. There is a Christmas Flower Arranging Workshop at Graignamanagh Library. On Thursday 18th, there is a Christmas Craft Fair at Ferrybank Library between 2.30pm - 4.30pm. On Friday 19th, the Christmas Craft Fair at Ferrybank Library from 10am to 4.30pm. There is a Family Christmas Time hosted by a local Seannchai at Loughboy Library from 6.30pm. On Saturday 20th, the final day of the Christmas Craft Fair at Ferrybank Library from 9.30am to 1pm.

They are classed as one of the premier Smiths and Morrissey tribute bands or acts around at the moment. Kilkenny Castle Events

  • The 'Decius Mus' Tapestries have returned to the Castle. The Tapestries are among the great glories of the wonderful historic Ormonde Collection at Kilkenny Castle. The 'Decius' suite had been in the ownership of the Ormonde family for over 300 years and was displayed in several of their residences before being acquired by OPW for display in Kilkenny Castle. It forms a highlight of the Ormonde Collection in the Tapestry Room and fabulous Picture Gallery - one of the finest historic and architectural spaces in Ireland, kilkennycastle.ie
  • Orienteering Course - Following the December launch of the new permanent Orienteering Course at Kilkenny Castle Park, OPW is delighted to announce that three maps, Short (1.8km), Medium (2.4km) and Long (3.5km) distances, are now available to download for free on the Kilkenny Castle Website. The orienteering course is open to all, families, individuals, clubs, schools and what an amazing way to explore the flora and fauna of Kilkenny Castle Park whilst enjoying the exercise in beautiful surroundings.  There is also a small area of the Canal Walk involved in the courses, kilkennycastle.ie
  • Office of Public Works, Kilkenny Castle is delighted to present our annual Christmas Programme full of festive and fun FREE events for all the family on Saturday 13th, Sunday 14th, Thursday 18th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st December. The Castle will be open FREE of charge on both weekends from 9am to 4pm - do come in and enjoy the wonderful performances and children's events as well as the stunning Christmas décor throughout the building.

From a jumble of unpacked presents a beautiful town emerges waiting for Santa’s Christmas visit and we find ourselves carried away on a fantastical journey using shadow play and puppetry.
