But Benjamin Bagby believes that the original Old English text, first written down in the eleventh century, holds a magical power that no modern translation can match, and has made it his life’s work to perform it all over the world, kilkennyarts.ie
  • Talk: Hugo Hamilton, Liz Nugent & Donal Ryan - Monday 11th August - Watergate Theatre - 6pm, €13/11 - Three acclaimed Irish novelists gather in the Watergate to present some of the most talked-about novels published this year. Liz Nugent’s Unravelling Oliver uses multiple narrators to weave a complex and gripping story that keeps the reader waiting to the end to uncover the true horror behind a shocking opening scene. Last year Donal Ryan’s debut novel, The Spinning Heart, won the Guardian First Book Award, and this year the follow-up, The Thing About December, has confirmed his status as one of the most exciting new voices in Irish fiction, kilkennyarts.ie
