Rod Stewart returns to Kilkenny in 2016

On the eve of releasing a brand new studio album ’Another Country’, ROD STEWART has announced a return to Ireland in 2016 to play Nowlan Park in Kilkenny on Saturday 25th June as part of his ‘HITS 2016’ Tour. More information at visitkilkenny.ie/rod_stewart_live_in_kilkenny

  • Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny - Parliment St - 10am to 6pm daily, €12/9.50/7 - This multi-sensory and interactive experience will take visitors on a journey through the medieval origins of brewing on the site of the St. Francis Abbey Brewery to the arrival of John Smithwick in the 1700’s, and right up to the present day.  During the tour, the Smithwick’s brewing process will be brought to life with visitors having the opportunity to experience the smells, tastes and textures of the raw materials involved in creating the perfect pint of ale. French, German, Spanish and Italian speaking visitors will be offered an audio guide to take them through the tour, which lasts approximately 70 minutes

  • Concert: Daniel Knox - Thursday 4th February - Cleeres Theatre, Parliment St - 9.30pm, €10 - Long known for darkly distorting traditional American popular song styles, Daniel Knox employs a new, more wide-ranging sonic palette on his latest work, his self titled album. The ten songs on his recently released self titled album feature his powerful and unique baritone with an array of brass, strings and synthesizers, cleeres.com
  • Concert: Rozi Plain - Friday 5th February - Brewery Corner, Parliment St - 9.30pm, €5 - Her songs possess a plucky sense of charisma and brilliantly capture life's ephemeral nature: each track a beautiful snapshot of fragility, intimacy and gentle melody.   • Concert: Meltybrains? - Friday 5th February - Set Theatre, John St - 10.30pm, €5 - Dan Hegarty of 2FM said "If you haven't ever seen this band live, do, because it's something to behold". Meltybrains? make colourful, incendiary music with machines and instruments, hands and mouths. Like the blissful aftermath of an explosion in a paint factory. Meltybrains?' gigs are a blur of light, sound and movement, set.ie

  • Concert: Derek Ryan - Sunday 7th February - Newpark Hotel, Castlecomer Road - 8pm - Derek Ryan’s name is relatively new on the Irish country music scene, although the 28-year-old is a seasoned performer. After spending much of his late teens and early twenties in successful boyband D-Side, he decided to follow his dream of becoming a country singer- songwriter, a dream that he has made a reality in recent months. Kilkenny Castle Events

  • The 'Decius Mus' Tapestries have returned to the Castle. The Tapestries are among the great glories of the wonderful historic Ormonde Collection at Kilkenny Castle. The 'Decius' suite had been in the ownership of the Ormonde family for over 300 years and was displayed in several of their residences before being acquired by OPW for display in Kilkenny Castle. It forms a highlight of the Ormonde Collection in the Tapestry Room and fabulous Picture Gallery - one of the finest historic and architectural spaces in Ireland, kilkennycastle.ie
  • Orienteering Course - Following the December launch of the new permanent Orienteering Course at Kilkenny Castle Park, OPW is delighted to announce that three maps, Short (1.8km), Medium (2.4km) and Long (3.5km) distances, are now available to download for free on the Kilkenny Castle Website. The orienteering course is open to all, families, individuals, clubs, schools and what an amazing way to explore the flora and fauna of Kilkenny Castle Park whilst enjoying the exercise in beautiful surroundings.  There is also a small area of the Canal Walk involved in the courses, kilkennycastle.ie
