  • Concert: Mark Anthony McGrath - Saturday 26th July - Hole In The Wall, High St - 8.30pm - His original interpretations of music from the ancient harp compositions of Turlough O'Carolan to the Chansons of Jacques Brel have become a regular feature on RTE Lyric FM, Radio France Musique, Radio Scotland and similar stations throughout Europe.   • Concert: MOOT presents Diosco na Mbo followed by DJ set from Replete - Saturday 26th July - Brewery Corner, Parliment Street - 9.30pm - MOOT will be putting on its second club night. The night welcomes Dioscó na Mbó to Kilkenny an Irish band who seem to be up to their eyelids In tunes and song and dance. They play traditional funk and disco with a contemporary slant using electronic instrumentation and electrified vocals whilst staying true to their roots playing music. Kilkenny Castle Events

  • The 'Decius Mus' Tapestries have returned to the Castle. The Tapestries are among the great glories of the wonderful historic Ormonde Collection at Kilkenny Castle. The 'Decius' suite had been in the ownership of the Ormonde family for over 300 years and was displayed in several of their residences before being acquired by OPW for display in Kilkenny Castle. It forms a highlight of the Ormonde Collection in the Tapestry Room and fabulous Picture Gallery - one of the finest historic and architectural spaces in Ireland, kilkennycastle.ie
  • Concert: Graiguenamanagh Brass Band - Sunday 27th July - Rose Garden at Kilkenny Castle - 3pm to 4pm, free - OPW Kilkenny Castle is delighted to present a Summer Series  of ' Music in the Gardens' on Sunday afternoons in July from 3pm to 4pm.   • Concert: Ceoltoiri Kilkenny (20+ talented musicians, singers & dancers) - Wednesday 30th July - Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle - 8.30pm to 10.30pm, €10/8/5 - Ceoltoiri Kilkenny, a group of over 20 talented musicians, singers and dancers will present a weekly colourful and exciting Irish Entertainment Show at the Parade Tower during the months of June, July and early August.  A truly memorable and enjoyable evening for all the family, kilkennycastle.ie
  • Orienteering Course - Following the December launch of the new permanent Orienteering Course at Kilkenny Castle Park, OPW is delighted to announce that three maps, Short (1.8km), Medium (2.4km) and Long (3.5km) distances, are now available to download for free on the Kilkenny Castle Website. The orienteering course is open to all, families, individuals, clubs, schools and what an amazing way to explore the flora and fauna of Kilkenny Castle Park whilst enjoying the exercise in beautiful surroundings.  There is also a small area of the Canal Walk involved in the courses, kilkennycastle.ie

Watergate Theatre (on Parliment St) - Upcoming Shows

  • Theatre: Watergate Productions present "Da" - Monday 21st to Saturday 26th July - 8pm, €16/13/10 - Excitement is building as Watergate Productions prepare to stage one of Irish theatre’s greatest classics ‘Da’. Hugh Leonard’s hilarious comedy was winner of the 1978 Tony Award for Best Play, New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play, and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Play. Da was previously performed by Watergate Productions in 1996 with Donal O Brien in the role of Da and Joe Murray in the role of Charlie. Joe Murray takes on the role of director this time round and has assembled a stellar cast to bring the classic comedy back to the Watergate stage. It’s got a great mix of comedy, drama and has some very touching moments, watergatetheatre.com
  • Storytelling: Benjamin Bagby's Beowulf - Sunday 10th August - Watergate Theatre - 8pm, €20/17 - Part of Kilkenny Arts Festival. In the thousand years or more since its creation, Beowulf, the Anglo-Saxon epic that forms the cornerstone of English literature, has been translated countless times. But Benjamin Bagby believes that the original Old English text, first written down in the eleventh century, holds a magical power that no modern translation can match, and has made it his life’s work to perform it all over the world, kilkennyarts.ie
